A native of Philadelphia, PA, Ardith Rae Decker (call her Ardy!) sold her first work - a set of four watercolor landscapes signed by Ard - at the age of 12 in 1965 and has been creating and selling original artwork ever since!
An "air force brat", Ardy moved around the country with her parents and three siblings, sharing a special love of arts and crafts with her mother Sharon. After meeting her then future husband, air force mechanic Dave Young, in New Mexico, she followed Dave to his new duty station in Germany where they married and started a family.
After traveling and living in five countries across three continents, Ardy and Dave finally settled in Hollywood, MD. Traveling the globe provided Ardy with opportunities to study with international artists and to develop a rich appreciation for the techniques and artistry of other cultures, which continue to influence her creative efforts.
Her diverse work in various mediums and genres - paintings in watercolors, oils, and acrylics; custom painted ceramics; original jewelry designs in brass and sliver; one-of-a-kind floral designs using natural and "up-cycled" materials - and a career in bookkeeping kept her busy until she retired in 1999, when she discovered her true artistic calling in stained glass. In 1999, armed with stained glass supplies purchased from a retiring artist, some advice, and a large supply of specialty bandages for fingertips and knuckles, Ardy worked diligently to cultivate her unique vision and style, which have made Ardy's Creations a household name in St. Mary's County, MD.
With her dogs Cyrus. Jerry Lee and Christmas Present to keep her company, Ardy spends time cutting, grinding, and soldering stained glass originals and firing her kiln to create "hot" glass pieces in her home studio, tackling as many different projects as her imagination can handle, showcasing her work in her home gallery.
